Presentation

Owned by Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) since 1988, Viña Los Vascos is the fruit of DBR (Lafite)'s pioneering ambition in Chile. The vineyard lies in the heart of the Colchagua valley, and benefits from an exceptional combination of features: the climate provides remarkably healthy conditions for grape growing, while the terroir enjoys excellent sunshine, water resources, semi-arid soil and a low risk of frost. At an altitude of 130 metres, 40 km from the Pacific Ocean, the vineyard's micro-climate is particularly well-suited to the creation of fine wines.
A single block, the vineyard is located at 34°30' latitude and 71°30' longitude, 200 km south of Santiago. With 580 hectares, it is one of the largest vineyards in the central valley of Colchagua, at the base of Mount Cañeten. The two soil types (sandy-clay and granitic sand) are both of volcanic origin. The grape varieties planted are Cabernet Sauvignon (85%), Carmenère (5%), Syrah (4%), Malbec (1%) and Chardonnay (5%). Los Vascos' Sauvignon Blanc and some of the Chardonnay come from vines under long-term contracts in cooler regions on the Pacific coast (Casablanca and Leyda) and the foothills of the Andes.
